QIGONG – Tuesdays 10am – 11.30am with Sylvie Merope

Learn flowing moves to strengthen and loosen the body, calm the heart and mind. Practise short self healing forms to balance Qi (chi), our vital energy, regulate breathing and emotions and learn the beautiful Wild Goose form.

What is Qigong?

Often, people ask me what Qigong (Chi Kung) is and many of my students refer to it as Tai Chi.

Qigong is the cultivation of Qi (Chi), our life force, our vital energy, the energy of life. Qi is everywhere in the universe, in nature and all living creatures.

Learning to increase and regulate the flow of Qi in our self is the aim of Qigong. We use flowing movements and forms, focusing on breathing and practicing short meditations to achieve this.

Qigong is deeply relaxing, improves balance as well as strengthening the body and keeping it flexible. As we get older it’s a beautiful gift to ourselves.

Regular practice, between classes, at your chosen time, even for 10 minutes will help improve your health and wellbeing.

Intention (Yi) is essential to one’s practice, to clear stagnant energy, remove excess or deficient energy and achieve a state of balance between Yin and Yang.

Qigong works on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) , clearing the Qi of the organs and channels (or meridians) and stimulating particular acupressure points in the body to achieve balance. It is a recognised branch of TCM.

I run a class on Tuesday mornings at West Winds from 10 to 11.30 am, ($15) so you are welcome to join us even if you have a medical challenge. You will work at your own pace, sitting down and resting when needed and practise in a friendly and supportive environment.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a bottle of water with you.
